Fira de Lleida commenced activity in the year 1946, with the organisation of fairs and conferences and with the management of the fairgrounds. Each year 14 periodical exhibitions and some fifty conferences, meetings and other professional, recreational and cultural characterised activities are organised in the Fira de LLeida. It also collaborates in economic endorsement acts. | | |
The first fair held annually is the Fira Agrària de Sant Miquel, which has the longest tradition of any fair organised in Lleida and is the most important agricultural exposition of those that take place in Spain at the end of the year.
The fair tradition dates back to the year 1232, in which King Jaime I conceded the carrying out of an annual ten day fair, after the day of Sant Miquel in the month of September. It is precisely this fair, the Fira Agrària de Sant Miquel, essential to the agrarian division of Spain.
