Guadalajara

Palacio del Infantado

What to say about Guadalajara, Arriaca, Caraca, Wad-al-Hayara, Río de Piedras, so that its visitors lose themselves in its spirit full of surprises. Each one of these names used to refer to Guadalajara has left their presence on the gardens, parks and corners of the present era, but are nothing short of appreciable.

Of Carpetano origin, Romanized before Christ, Visigoth, Muslim during centuries and finally Christian, many are unaware of its significance to Castilians.
Alfonso XI lived here, Juan I announced the Parliament and Enrique IV conceded the city name.

We should enter the town by the former highway of Madrid to visit its oldest remnants, the bridge over the Henares River. The Romans built it to advance the Via Augusta; from the Arabs, in the X century, was the main construction and access way to one of that time's most important cities. Nowadays it is a luxury to cross a river by car over such ancient stones. We continue on to Madrid Street up to Alcazár, where outer walls remain standing and some of the wall's round turrets. Of Muslim origin and modified to Royal quarters after the Reconquest, here they held Castilian Courts. Visitors will find on their way the walls's remains; the large fortified towers and doors of Alvar Fáñez, Alamín and Bejanque,
